Prologue to a fiction of a space that does not yet exist is an exhibition embedded in a fictional text written by the curator. The premise is the projection of an imaginary space, not necessarily bound by physical laws. This might have something to do with compulsive reading of Proust, conflicted domestic semiotics and a recurring dream… but is it really necessary for you to know this? The fiction started off within this frame, and will integrate the artists’ contributions in the writing as narrative elements. But the text doesn’t provide a script for the artworks presented at ODD; they will retain the autonomy of their narratives, and shape the text eventually.
By displacing the exhibition process beyond a physical space, certain artistic or curatorial constraints related to architecture, hierarchy and chronology might be delayed or spared. There are comings and goings between the written text and the artists’ works, as well as the places invested: the project will be in residency at La Galerie, centre d’art contemporain de Noisy-le-sec during the summer with the production of a book, then the show will travel to Schleifmühlgasse 12-14 in Vienna in December.
