What Weight
What Weight
Giulia Damiani and Theodore Ereira Guyer
27.8 – 1.10.2015
ODD & ALERT studio
Melancholy. Weighty displaced beings. The weight of fat-free yogurt in schizophrenic times and the weight of pneuma, the human soul that existed in air for pre-Socratic Greeks. Lightness as visual abstraction or the flight of mythological heroes to leave an unbearable world to find new routes. On the earth below, bulky body joints and slowed-down movements; and writing as dense as trees crowding a midsummer forest.
What Weight will look at notions of lightness and heaviness to think differently about art and society. Free of preconceived histories, this subject allows for new intersectional thoughts. It will form a nomadic compendium of disciplines ranging from performance to printing techniques, psychological states, feminist research, philosophical enquiries and visual work among others. Writing will approximate sensations and lyrical escapades. The project includes an exhibition, reading groups, writing and performative workshops, explorations in Bucharest and a final publication (contributions are welcome).
Residency supported by ODD. Exhibition presented by ALERT Studio.
