Session 1, 13 June: The fragments selected from Brecht bring forth 2 important dimensions of his art and political engagement: on the one hand, the critique of bourgeois art, on the other, the fight against the rise of fascism and Nazism. One can discern the type of engaged art (communist) Brecht has in mind. Taking Brecht as a starting point, the reading group aims to bear on our current predicament. Far from a retrospective reading of Brecht, the goal is to ask: can Brecht be repeated today? Session 1 text available here.

Session 2, 27 June: The session analyses the polemics between Brecht and Lukacs, and between Brecht and Benjamin, respectively. The point is neither to take sides, nor to revisit their themes. Rather, the texts offer an opportunity to discuss the process of representation and the way it articulates with political and class perspectives. Session 2 text available here.

Sesiunea 1, 13 iunie: Fragmentele selectate din Brecht aduc în prim plan două dimensiuni importante ale artei și angajamentului său politic: pe de o parte critica artei burgheze, pe de alta lupta cu apariția și instalarea la putere a fascismului și nazismului. În filigran se întrevede tipul de artă angajată (comunistă) imaginat de Brecht. Pornind de la Brecht sesiunea de lecturi încearcă să aducă aceste preocupări și întrebări în orizontul situației de azi. Nu ne propunem așadar o lectură recuperatoare a lui Brecht, ci una prospectivă: poate fi Brecht repetat astăzi?

Sesiunea 2, 27 iunie: Sesiunea analizează dialogurile dintre Brecht și Lukacs și Brecht și Benjamin. Scopul lecturii nu este nici acela de a tranșa dezbaterile acestora, nici de a recupera obiectul discuțiilor acestora. Mai circumscris, textele constituie un prilej de a discuta despre reprezentare și felul în care aceasta se articulează cu poziții politice și de clasă.
